In another duel between the red-blacks and the green-and-whites, this time in the 22nd round of the Brasileirão, Flamengo drew with Palmeiras 1-1, this Sunday (11) on Father's Day, at Maracanã. Arrascaeta scored the red-black goal in the match. With the result, the Mais Querido added 41 points and is in third place in the championship.
The game
The match started at full speed, with each side having a chance less than two minutes into the match. Flamengo created the opportunity with Cebolinha, who made a good run down the left, attempted a pass in the middle, and accidentally ended up playing a one-two with Richard Ríos. The forward got the ball and shot firmly, but Weverton saved, sending the ball out for a corner.
Ten minutes in, Flamengo suffered a significant loss. Cebolinha fell to the ground and requested a substitution. Luiz Araújo replaced him. In the 10th minute, Flamengo again delivered a strong effort. Gerson crossed from the left, Pedro managed to anticipate and head home powerfully. Weverton glanced the ball off the post before going out for a corner.
Palmeiras continued to push forward. In the 24th minute, Luiz Araújo delivered a beautiful pass to Arrascaeta. The Uruguayan beat his marker, entered the box, and shot toward goal. Weverton, once again, saved Palmeiras. Palmeiras managed to score a goal, but after a VAR check, the referee ruled defender Gustavo Gómez offside.
In the final stretch of the first half, the game became more tense, with fouls stopping play. Both teams had chances to open the scoring, but went into the break without changing the score.
Palmeiras came out stronger in the second half and created chances to take the lead early on. The game was very close, with intense competition for possession. In the 19th minute, De La Cruz sent a beautiful ball to Luiz Araújo, wide on the right; the number 7 cut inside and took a shot. Weverton made the save in two attempts.
Then, in the 22nd minute, Mengão finally broke the deadlock at the Maraca! De La Cruz fed Gerson, who crossed low to Arrascaeta. The Uruguayan shot toward goal, but the ball deflected before going in: 1-0.
Palmeiras equalized in the 40th minute with a goal from Luighi, who capitalized on Rossi's rebound and slotted home to make it 1-1. Needing a win to regain the lead, Flamengo pushed hard in the final stretch. In stoppage time, Arrascaeta took a shot from outside the box, but the ball went just wide of the post. The game ended in a draw at the Maracanã.
