Flamengo meets with authorities to clarify the tragedy at the training center
Club reiterates that it supports investigations and assumes responsibility and compensation to families; Ninho do Urubu will undergo inspection this Tuesday (12)
By Flamengo Communication - inA meeting at the Public Ministry headquarters, on Monday morning (11), brought together representatives of Flamengo and government authorities to discuss actions following the fire at the George Helal Training Center, last Friday (8).
The club was represented by President Rodolfo Landim, Vice President General and Legal Rodrigo Dunshee, CEO Reinaldo Belotti, Deliberative Council President Alcides Antunes, and Vice President Legal Flávio Willeman, former President Eduardo Bandeira de Mello's administration. Also present were representatives from the Rio de Janeiro City Hall, Civil Defense, Fire Department, Labor Prosecutor's Office, Civil Police, and Public Defender's Office.
After the meeting, Landim reiterated that Flamengo supports the investigations carried out by the relevant authorities and will continue to assist the families of the victims. It was also decided that, on Tuesday morning (12), there will be a joint inspection of the training center in Vargem Grande, during which the Public Prosecutor's Office will assess whether the site should be fully or partially closed. For now, the club has suspended any overnight stays for athletes and employees at Ninho do Urubu.
"The main focus, initially, was to provide assistance to the families. Over the past few days, the club has brought them to Rio de Janeiro and made a number of professionals available: a psychologist and a social worker. We have communicated our willingness to contact the authorities if there are any outstanding issues. We will be focused and working to resolve this as quickly as possible. We are confident of resolving the matter quickly. We have spared no resources to minimize the pain and suffering. We have expressed our desire to compensate the families as quickly as possible. The club's goal is to seek mediation with the Public Defender's Office to resolve this as quickly as possible," said president Landim, who added that Flamengo has always provided the assistance it deserves to the Ninho Boys.
"We're expressing our concern about the young men who have organized lives around the training center. These are boys who have come from various parts of the country. They have access to education, medical, dental, and psychological care. It's crucial that we continue the work we do there," he concluded.

Eduardo Gussem, Attorney General of the Public Prosecutor's Office:
"It is very important to note that the Flamengo presidency has assumed all responsibilities regarding the event, committed to providing full support to the families of the victims, and entrusted the public defender's office with the responsibility of conducting negotiations with the families for immediate repairs. Starting tomorrow, we will conduct extensive inspections of the Flamengo training center so that we can analyze the conditions of the training center and whether there is a need to fully or partially close the workplace."
Rodrigo Pacheco, Public Defender General of the State of Rio de Janeiro:
"Flamengo has publicly committed to participating in a negotiation chamber. We will reach a prompt and swift negotiation agreement. Not only financial, but also psychological, medical, and social. We will present a proposed conduct adjustment agreement, which the family can choose to adhere to. Or pursue a legal battle that could last many years. The proposal is to provide a swift response to the families' suffering."
Fábio Vilella, Chief Prosecutor of the Rio de Janeiro Labor Prosecutor's Office:
"Our inspection tomorrow (Tuesday) will assess all of this. First, whether or not the training center is in operating condition. And the issue of the employment relationship of these children and adolescents. From there, we will take the appropriate measures. Flamengo has committed to regularizing everything immediately. From a preventative perspective, to prevent further tragedies, not only at Flamengo but at other clubs, we will conduct a sweep of other training centers."
On Friday morning (15), the club and authorities will meet again at the MP.
