Athletes from Flamengo's professional team and youth teams joined together in prayer this Wednesday morning (30) at CT George Helal. The silence, the respectful prayer, lifts our hearts alongside so many others, especially family members and fans of the Chapecoense Football Association, around the pain of the loss of so many loved ones.
Tuesday, November 29, 2016. The world woke up sad and united in grief. Compassion filled the hearts of not only the 40 million fans of the Red-Black Nation. Anyone who ever played with a ball, whether soccer, basketball, or baseball, anyone who ever played any sport, anyone who ever cheered, breathed, or simply loved a neighbor, was moved by the tragedy that took so many lives. Chapecoense, which in the recent past rose from the Série D to the top division of Brazilian soccer repeatedly, which in 2016 lived the dream of competing in a continental final, is now eternal. In this eternity, we unite our thoughts. In this union, we send our thoughts of love, affection, understanding, and compassion, united in our most respectful mourning.
Flamengo, as a soccer, basketball, and other sports team, thrives on conveying emotions. Passion guides our relationship with those who follow us from the moment we take our first breath at birth. We are one, Chape. We always have been.
And when we say we are one, the message is that everyone involved in sports functions as a unit. The press is a present, essential, and relevant part of this structure where everyone complements each other. Storytellers and communicators passionate about sports have also left us. Professionals from Fox Sports, TV Globo, RBS TV, globoesporte.com, Rádio Chapecó, Oeste Capital, Super Condá, Vang FM, and RIC TV, who enriched the history of sports, will also be forever lost. Our deepest condolences to their families.
