Flamengo has no room for "flip flops"

The medical department has been doing a great job and players are recovering from injuries ahead of schedule.

The term "chinelinho" (little slipper) has become widely used in the world of soccer to refer to players who spend a long time in the medical department. At Flamengo, however, the situation is different. The word is no longer in the vocabulary of the red-and-black soccer department. Thanks to the work of the club's medical team and the dedication of injured players, recently, all injured players returned before the initial recovery time.

The list of players who have been treated by the red-and-black medical team during this Brazilian Championship is extensive. Defender David, full-back Juan, defensive midfielder Toró, and midfielders Everton and Kleberson were among the main cases of athletes who suffered serious injuries but dedicated themselves to treatment and ended up returning ahead of schedule. For coach Andrade, the credit goes to the team led by Dr. José Luiz Runco.

"This is thanks to the expertise of Dr. Runco and the Medical Department in recovering these players in record time. Kleberson returned earlier than expected, for example. It's high-level work. The whole "flip-flop" thing is over. The player now enjoys playing for Flamengo. Everyone wants to be on the field and gives their all. We were able to restore that," said the coach.

For Dr. Marcelo Soares, besides the good work of his teammates, psychological factors are also crucial for the best possible recovery. The Flamengo doctor emphasizes the unity and dedication of the entire group, and emphasizes that the medical team is not releasing any player if he is not 100% ready to play.

"The players' dedication is crucial. This psychological work, the desire to return quickly, makes a huge difference. It's important to emphasize that we're not forcing anyone. The deadlines are estimates we give, considering a margin of error, between the minimum and maximum recovery time, and everyone is returning earlier because of their excellent recovery and dedication," said Marcelo.

The latest injured player is Chilean midfielder Maldonado. The number 13 suffered a serious injury to his left knee, will undergo surgery, and is expected to return in March 2010. Defender David, who was sidelined due to a sunken face, gives his teammate the prescription.

"He needs to be patient and do everything he can to return as quickly as possible. I took this into my head, took the medication prescribed by the doctors exactly, and took care of myself," he explained.

Another pleasant surprise is left-winger Everton, who is another role model for Maldonado. The player is recovering better than expected from a fractured left foot and hopes to be available for coach Andrade for Sunday's match against Grêmio.

"The fracture has already calcified and I no longer feel any pain in my left foot. I took the treatment seriously with the help of my family and now I'm reaping the rewards," concluded the number 22.
