During training last Friday (November 27.11th), a group of Flamengo fans wanted to watch the team's training session at the Raulino de Oliveira stadium, but the activity was closed. There was a peaceful protest from the fans, but the players made a point of defending Luxemburgo, who was more focused than ever on preparing the team for the decisive match against Cruzeiro on Sunday (November 28.11th) at 17 pm.
Aware of the importance of having fans around, the coach practiced two different formations and preferred a more tranquil working environment. This was approved by the players, who also had no journalists nearby.
"The fans have the right to be upset, but the coach was testing a formation. It was just to avoid making a fuss. The fans really need to be here on Sunday to help us get out of this situation. It's very important that they support us, like in the last game at Engenhão. I hope the fans come here on Sunday so we can get the victory together," Willians explained, also taking the opportunity to explain the changes made to the team.
"We are here to do what the coach asks. If he makes changes to the team, it's because he's looking out for what's best for Flamengo."
Another player who made a point of explaining his decision to have a more relaxed training session was the attacking midfielder Marquinhos. The young player emphasized the importance of concentration in training sessions held before a crucial match like Sunday's.
"Given the situation we're in, it's good to be focused, thinking only about the game and the opponent. I'm very grateful for the fans' support and I hope they come out and help the team on Sunday," urged Marquinhos, who was kept in the starting lineup during training and even joked when asked where he should play if he gets to start.
"Whether he puts me at center-back, goalkeeper, or full-back, it doesn't matter. The position doesn't matter. My characteristic has always been to play wide, and I'm happy to play like that. I have no preference. He asks me to play in the middle and go out on the wing. For me, it also doesn't matter who's further forward. I play with Diogo or Diego Maurício without the slightest problem," Marquinhos concluded.
