With their heads held high, Flamengo trained this Thursday at Gávea. The starting players from the match against Universidad de Chile did regenerative training, while the reserves and non-players played training on the field. Pet and Maldonado, who played only 45 minutes, and Rômulo, who was substituted in the first half, also participated in the activity. As did Emperor Adriano.
Even though he played the entire game, the number 10 put on his boots, participated in training and was praised by football manager Isaias Tinoco.
"Adriano is a phenomenon. When he asks not to train, the repercussions are huge. When he asks to train, the repercussions are even greater. Indeed, he asked. He was sad. It's every professional's dream to serve on the national team, but, once again, he showed why he's so talented. He gave a demonstration of strength and knows the show must go on. Life goes on," he said.
Left-back Juan also heaped praise on his teammate and highlighted the Emperor's importance to the red-black squad.
"Adriano is a role model on our team, both as a person and as a teammate. He's always encouraging everyone, giving good advice, and sharing positive experiences with the group. He's well-liked for his simplicity, even though he's gotten to where he is today. He's demonstrated his importance once again," he said.
Coach Rogério Lourenço has not yet released the list of players selected for Saturday's game against Vitória, at Barradão, for the second round of the 2010 Brazilian Championship.
