Flamengo fought hard and scored a goal, but the 1-0 victory wasn't enough to secure qualification for the quarterfinals of the 2018 Conmebol Libertadores. The score from the first leg weighed heavily in the end, and the Minas Gerais team entered and left the field with the advantage in this decision. Flamengo still has two competitions to focus on this season. In the Brazilian Championship, the team is in third place with 41 points and plays next Sunday (02), against Ceará, at Maracanã, at 11 am. In the Copa do Brasil, the Mais Querido will face Corinthians, on September 12 and 26. 

With changes to the lineup, Mauricio Barbieri fielded a different team than usual. Vitinho was deployed as a number nine, and Marlos played more wide on the left. Flamengo dominated the field, having over 60% possession, but failed to create many chances. The best came from Diego's shot from outside the box, but the ball went wide. Cruzeiro also had only one chance, through Barcos, but the striker missed inside the six-yard box. 

Playing by the rules, the home team waited for Flamengo and tried to counterattack in the second half. Flamengo continued to have plenty of possession, and chances began to appear. Marlos received a beautiful pass from Renê and went one-on-one with Fabio, but his shot went wide.

In the 24th minute, the ball went in. Diego took a corner kick, the ball crossed the box, and Everton Ribeiro sent it back. Léo Duarte, almost under the crossbar, finished and ignited the game. Cruzeiro decided to come out more and create space, but the Rubro-Negro failed to capitalize and remained at that. Victory, fight, and dedication. But one goal wasn't enough.
