The game
Betting on the ball possession style already traditional in Zé Ricardo's tactical scheme, Flamengo dominated the action in the first few minutes and opened the scoring in the 12th minute with Guerrero. The inspired Rodinei, who had been enjoying a goal-scoring streak, this time headed the ball towards his Peruvian teammate and provided the assist for the number 9, who was free to turn beautifully and put the ball in the back of the net.

After the goal, Atlético-GO pressed forward and sought the equalizer, which came a minute later after a shot hit the post, by Jorginho. The opponent then began to play by pressing high up the pitch, disrupting Flamengo's build-up play, who only created another chance a few minutes before the end of the first half, with a long-range shot from Guerrero. Atlético-GO threatened in the final moments, but were thwarted by the Flamengo defense or goalkeeper Alex Muralha.

Returning for the second half, the first clear chance came with a firm header from Réver in the eighth minute, forcing the Atlético-GO goalkeeper to make a great reflex save. With Ederson, Arão, and Rodinei, Flamengo created more chances, but were thwarted by Atlético-GO's strong marking. In the 24th minute, an unbelievable play: Renê struck the ball perfectly on the first touch, but goalkeeper Felipe parried it away and the ball hit the crossbar with force.

Fate decreed that Matheus Savio would be the one to score the winning goal. The youngster came off the bench and took five minutes to put Flamengo back in the lead. His attempted cross deflected, went past everyone, and nestled into the bottom right corner of Atlético-GO's goal. In the final minutes, Flamengo maintained possession and secured the victory and a place in the quarterfinals of the Copa do Brasil.
