In the second leg of the Copa do Brasil round of 1, Flamengo defeated Atlético-MG 0-4 at Arena MRV, overturning the first leg's score, forcing a penalty shootout. In the shootout, the home team prevailed, winning 3-XNUMX and eliminating the Red-Blacks from the competition early. Cebolinha scored the goal in regulation time. Now, Flamengo will focus its efforts on the Brasileirão, where it is currently leading, and the Libertadores, where it will face Internacional next week in the round of XNUMX.

The game

With a significantly modified team, Flamengo began the match by taking the initiative to attack, needing to overturn the result of their last game, when they lost to Atlético at the Maracanã. Through passing, Flamengo tried to push the Minas Gerais team back into their own half. In the 13th minute, Pedro received the ball at the edge of the box and fired a shot, aiming for Everson's right corner. The ball sailed just wide of the post. It was Flamengo's first good attack of the match. 

Mengão capitalized on its best moment of the match and opened the scoring at Arena MRV in the 20th minute. Plata delivered a beautiful pass to Cebolinha, who dribbled past Natanael inside the box and subtly tapped the ball into the back of the net. Atlético-MG's lead ended, and the score is tied over both games. 

The ball started rolling again, with the Red-Blacks maintaining their same approach of marking the Minas Gerais team's exit from the ball. In the 38th minute, after a good triangle between Plata, Wallace Yan, and Evertton Araujo on the right wing, the Red-Black midfielder hit a well-placed shot, and the ball went just wide of the post.  

In the final minutes, Jorginho advanced through the middle, dribbled past Lyanco, and shot into the corner. Everson jumped into the right corner to save Atlético. Léo Ortiz then headed the ball to Pedro, who turned inside the box and fired a first-time shot. The ball sailed over the goal. With more possession and chances created, Atlético Mineiro went into halftime with the advantage. 

In the second half, Flamengo continued to press intensely, pushing up the lines to try to steal the ball in Atlético's defensive half. The game became more open, as the home side began to attack more. Before the 15th minute, Filipe Luís took off Cebolinha and brought on Samuel Lino. 

Shortly after, Arrascaeta and Saúl also entered the field, replacing Pedro and Plata, respectively. As the game progressed, Atlético advanced their lines and began to threaten Rossi's goal. In the 36th minute, Flamengo had a great opportunity to score the second. Saúl, from the right of the box, crossed to Samuel Lino, who shot low. The ball bounced off the defense and fell to Wallace Yan, who headed the ball wide. 

In the final stretch, both teams pushed hard for the qualifying goal, but the decision went to penalties. Atlético-MG prevailed in the shootout, winning 4-3. With this result, Flamengo was eliminated from the competition.
