By Romulo Paranhos - inMengão took the lead! In the first leg of the Copa do Brasil quarterfinals, Flamengo beat Bahia 1-0 on Wednesday night (28) at Arena Fonte Nova. Bruno Henrique scored the red-black goal in the second half. The number 27 headed the ball into the back of the net after a corner kick. Now, the Mais Querido will have the advantage of a draw in the second leg at Maracanã to guarantee a place in the semifinals of the competition.

The game
The match began with Flamengo trying to maintain possession, exchanging passes in the attacking half. When Bahia tried to attack, the red-and-black team pressed up and tried to steal the ball.
As the game progressed, Bahia gained more possession and exchanged passes, occupying the attacking half. In the 33rd minute, after Bahia pressed forward, Luiz Araújo found Gerson at the edge of the box, and the number 8 took a shot, but it went over the goal. It was their first effective attack.
Rubro-Negro surged late in the first half and created a good opportunity to take the lead. Luiz Araújo dribbled past Caio Alexandre on the left wing and reached the byline. He sent a low cross into the middle of the box, and Gerson arrived, firing home a first-time shot. Defender Kanu dived to save the goal. With few chances created, the teams went into halftime without a change in the score.
Early in the second half, Mengão opened the scoring at Fonte Nova! From the right, De La Cruz took a corner kick with a beautiful slice to the far post and Bruno Henrique rose higher than everyone to head it into the back of the net: 1-0.
After the goal, Bahia went on the attack looking for an equalizer. Matheus Cunha made two important saves that saved Flamengo. In the 25th minute, De La Cruz felt discomfort in his thigh and requested a substitution. Léo Ortiz also asked to come off. Michael and Evertton Araújo came on in their places.
In the final stretch, Michael also felt a hamstring injury and left the field, leaving Flamengo down to ten men in the final minutes of the match. Bahia went all out in attack to try to equalize, but the red-and-black team managed to withstand the home team's pressure and held on for a 1-0 victory.
A good result away from home, as Mengão, with a draw in the second leg, qualifies for the semifinals of the Copa do Brasil.
