The game
The match began with strong marking from both teams and no clear chances for either side. The game became lukewarm until, at 23 minutes, Éverton went to the end line and crossed to Guerrero's feet, who controlled the ball, turned skillfully, and hit the net, but on the outside. The shot was very close and went through the net, 'deceiving' many fans in the stadium. Ten minutes later, Jonas fell awkwardly on the pitch and left in considerable pain, to be replaced by Cirino. The midfielder suffered a dislocation with suspected fracture and was taken to the Santa Joana Hospital in Recife. At 38 minutes, a Flamengo blitz: Emerson started the play with a beautiful long-range shot, but goalkeeper Julio Cesar parried it; in the sequence, Éverton got the rebound and passed to Emerson again, but the ball hit the defense. Flamengo's last great chance in the first half came at 42 minutes, with Guerrero. Pará crossed the ball to the Peruvian player on the end line, and the number 9 stretched out fully at the penalty spot, but couldn't reach the ball, which bounced and deceived the striker.
Just five minutes into the second half, Flamengo opened the scoring with plenty of emotion. Coming off excellent performances in the sacred jersey, young left-back Jorge found the net for the first time in the professional team, after a great play that began with a backheel pass from Cirino to Canteros. The Argentinian switched the play to Emerson on the left, who passed to Éverton. The midfielder kicked the ball back, finding Jorge, who finished with a well-placed shot and ran to celebrate. The youngster was very emotional during the celebration. Cesar would still make great saves until the final whistle, securing Flamengo's victory, which was sealed with another goal from Guerrero in the sacred jersey. In the 32nd minute, Marcelo Cirino advanced down the right, crossed perfectly, and the Peruvian finished into the net.
