The first half was balanced. América-MG took to the field trying to block the team's more creative players in the middle of the field, making it difficult for them to build up plays. The Minas Gerais champions launched counterattacks, seeking to catch the defense out of position by exploiting the speed of their forwards.

Flamengo remained firm and continued to press in search of a goal.
