Best on the field during the ninety minutes and supported by more than 50 thousand fans, Flamengo beat Goiás 3-1 on Sunday night, at Maracanã and, with the result, left the relegation zone of the Brazilian Championship.

The goals were scored by Léo Medeiros in the first half, and Juan and Ibson in the second. Paulo Baier pulled one back for Flamengo in stoppage time. Flamengo's next match in the competition will be the derby against Botafogo next Wednesday.

In front of their home crowd, Flamengo dominated and took the initiative to try and win from the first minute of the match, but it was Goiás who threatened first, thanks to a beautiful bicycle kick from Cristiano. The visitors also complained about a play in the 18th minute, when Fábio Luciano collided with Cristiano in the box, but the referee let play continue.

The first significant chance for the red-and-black team came in the 22nd minute, when Maxi broke free from his marker, sprinted from midfield, and fed Souza into the box on the left. The striker passed the ball to Juan, who only grazed the ball and finished poorly.

In the 31st minute, Maxi took off again, performed a beautiful dribble, but shot pressed against the defense. Three minutes later, Fábio Luciano complained about a push he had received in the Goiás penalty area, but, once again, the referee didn't call it.

The goal was ripe and happened in the 37th minute: Maxi received a pass from Juan on the left, crossed, Souza finished off the post and, on the rebound, in the small area, Léo Medeiros touched it into the empty net.

Flamengo came back even stronger in the second half, needing just 11 minutes to extend their lead. After a poor clearance from the Goiás defense, Léo Moura fed Juan, who controlled the ball with his back to goal, turned, and redeemed his first-half error by sending the ball into Harlei's left corner. A stunning goal, his teammates celebrated by lifting the full-back and literally throwing him into the air.

Irresistible, Flamengo continued to press a stunned Goiás and scored their third goal in the 15th minute. Juan passed to Léo Medeiros, who crossed from the baseline to Souza. The defense cleared the ball, and Ibson challenged Cleber Gaúcho for the rebound and not only won the ball but sent the ball into the left corner of the opposing goalkeeper's net.

After the third goal, Flamengo eased off the pressure and played the ball leisurely, waiting for time to pass. The only regret was that striker Maxi had to leave the field after feeling a twinge in his left thigh.

Discouraged, Goiás limited itself to crossing balls into the area and scored its consolation goal in the 47th minute, with a beautiful header from midfielder Paulo Baier after goalkeeper Bruno cut out a cross.
