This Carnival Saturday, Flamengo went to Nilton Santos Stadium to face Vasco in the first leg of the Campeonato Carioca semifinal and won 1-0. Bruno Henrique, the King of Classics, scored the only goal of the match. A stunning goal, by the way. Now the two teams face off next Saturday (8) to decide who will go to the tournament final. Flamengo can lose by up to one goal and still qualify.
Game
The game started off hotly. In the very first play of the game, just one minute into the game, Lucas Piton fouled Plata and received a yellow card. The opening half was quite choppy and full of fouls. Furthermore, neither team was able to create much because their defenses were well-organized.
Flamengo came out looking different in the second half. In the fourth minute, Arrascaeta hit a free kick over Léo Jardim's goal. It went just wide. In the next play, the number ten took a very tight corner kick and nearly scored an Olympic goal. The ball actually hit the post.
Mengão continued to press, with much greater dominance. Luiz Araújo intercepted an opponent's pass and shot from the edge of the box, hitting the post. He nearly opened the scoring. Then, in Mengão's next attack, the King of Classics appeared. Bruno Henrique fired a left-footed shot from outside the box into the top corner, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance. The score was open at the Engenhão stadium.
After the goal, Filipe Luís brought Allan into the game in place of Luiz Araújo to populate and have more control in the midfield.
At 38', Matheus Gonçalves received a pass from Gerson, drove it into the middle and shot over the goal.
Rubro-Negro controlled the match until the end and Rossi made a great save in the last play, guaranteeing the victory and adding another game without conceding a goal in the Campeonato Carioca.
