Mengão achieved its first victory in the 2020 season. On Wednesday night, at Maracanã, in a game valid for the second round of the Taça Guanabara, it beat Vasco 1-0, with a goal from striker Lucas Silva.

The game

Flamengo didn't start the first half well. They came alive in the 26th minute, when Flamengo midfielder Luiz Henrique hit the post. From then on, it was all Flamengo. In the 27th minute, Ramon crossed perfectly, and Lucas Silva, an opportunist, found the net: 1-0, Mais Querido.

In the 30th minute, Ramon nearly extended the lead after a beautiful pass from Yuri César. The ball ended up high on the shot. In the 42nd minute, Vitor Gabriel found Lucas Silva free in the box, but the striker wasted his shot by shooting wide. In the 44th minute, Yuri César hit a cross, and Vitor Gabriel nearly scored.

In the second half, Mengão continued to dominate the match. The introductions of Richard and Pepê improved the team's performance, and they created several chances. Vitor Gabriel scored one of them, but the goal was disallowed for offside. And that was it. A 1-0 victory for the red-and-blacks.

It's worth noting that Mengão hasn't lost to Vasco in 15 matches. Their last defeat was in 2016.

And now?

Runner-up in Group A of the Guanabara Cup with 4 points, Mengão returns to the field on Saturday, at 18 pm, at Maracanã, to face Volta Redonda.
