By Manuela Tostes - inOn Wednesday night (22), at Maracanã with more than 44 thousand present, Rubro-Negro started with the right foot in the Copa do Brasil, defeating Vitória 2-1, in the first leg of the Fifth Phase of the competition, opening an advantage in the confrontation. In the return game, at Barradão, Mais Querido will have a draw in its favor to qualify.
With goals from Evertton Araujo and Pedro, the team managed by Leonardo Jardim was superior for much of the game, created the best opportunities, and could have built an even bigger scoreline. The game
Flamengo started the match looking to attack, but found the beginning balanced. In the 10th minute, Evertton Araujo opened the scoring with a fantastic goal: the midfielder, a product of the Flamengo youth academy, received the ball from Nico De La Cruz in midfield, advanced and unleashed a powerful right-footed shot, lobbing the goalkeeper.
The lead, however, was short-lived. In the next minute, Erick scored a beautiful goal, without letting the ball bounce, and tied the game for Vitória.
Even with the draw, Flamengo maintained control of the match. With more possession and presence in the attacking third, the team created good chances, mainly through Pedro, Cebolinha, and Léo Ortiz. The number 3 even had a header that hit the post.
After the break, Flamengo needed only a few minutes to regain the lead. In the 6th minute, Bruno Henrique crossed from the left and Pedro headed in the second goal for Flamengo.
With the score in their favor, the team remained dominant, controlling the game and pressing for a third goal. Arrascaeta even hit the crossbar with a great shot, while Vitória had a goal correctly disallowed for offside in the second half.
In the final minutes, Flamengo maintained the pressure, piled up chances, and managed the victory until the final whistle, securing the advantage for the return match, which is scheduled for May 14th at Barradão.
