Flamengo returns to training finishing

In matches on a reduced pitch, Rogério Lourenço encourages shots from outside the area, at Ninho do Urubu

Last Tuesday (August 17.08), Flamengo coach Rogério Lourenço led an intense finishing training session with his players. This Wednesday (August 18.08), the activity was a little different, but had the same focus. The coach led the traditional tournament with four teams in mini-groups on reduced pitches. During the training session, however, he stipulated a new rule: goals from outside the box would be worth double.

The idea is to force players to take more risks, as Flamengo has had the fewest shots in the Brazilian Championship so far. The coach explained the importance of working on this type of fundamentals and revealed that he plans activities based on the team's strengths and weaknesses.

"We have to force players to shoot from outside the box. This is all planned based on what we think is good and what needs improvement. We try to improve our strengths and improve our weaknesses. With the quality of players we have, we need to work to make the team stronger," he said.

The commander also explained Tuesday's activity, where the full-backs crossed the balls for the attackers to finish from inside the area.

"We did this crossing and finishing drill because our team tends to play on the wings, with Léo Moura and Juan. Since they often drop into the middle, it's important for the players who play on the wings to know that we have two box-to-box players today and that it's important to know how to exploit them," he added.

Also this Wednesday at 15:30 p.m., the red-and-blacks will train again. This time, however, the activity will be physical, on Barra da Tijuca beach.
