Going to the beach in the middle of the week is a privilege only a few enjoy. But for the Flamengo team, the day was anything but leisurely. After taking Monday and Tuesday off, the squad returned to Leblon on Wednesday for a grueling series of physical activities on the sand. They're preparing for the final stretch of the Campeonato Carioca and the group stage of the Copa Santander Libertadores.
In the final round of the Rio Cup, Flamengo faces Friburguense on Sunday at 16 p.m. at the Moça Bonita stadium in Bangu. Coach Andrade will rest his starters for the match, already thinking ahead to next Wednesday's match against Universidad de Chile in the Copa Libertadores. Because of this, the weekend's match is considered a championship final for some players who don't have the opportunity to play regularly.
"Coach Andrade decided to rest the starters, and that gave us a good opportunity. I hope to make the most of it. It's going to be a very important game for me and everyone who takes the field," said midfielder Ramón, who is not registered for the first stage of the Libertadores.
According to fitness coach Alexandre Sanz, everyone on the squad is on par. The only difference is the pace of play, but physically, the group is ready for the challenge.
"All the players are in very good physical shape. If there are any problems, it could be due to match rhythm, but the players' physical fitness is very good," explained Sanz.
Flamengo will train again this Wednesday afternoon. At 15:30 p.m., the players will perform activities in Gávea.
