The Flamengo squad trained on Tuesday afternoon (20), a holiday in São Sebastião in the city of Rio de Janeiro. After a meeting at the George Helal Training Center, which included the participation of president Luiz Eduardo Baptista, executive director of football José Boto and coach Filipe Luís, it was decided that Flamengo will be represented by its professional squad in the classic against Vasco da Gama, this Wednesday (21).
In the three matches already played in the State Championship, the under-20 team drew 1-1 with Portuguesa and suffered two defeats: 2-1 against Bangu and 3-0 against Volta Redonda. With one point, Flamengo is in sixth place in Group B of the Carioca Championship. It's worth remembering that the top four teams from each group qualify for the quarterfinals.
Retrospect
Flamengo and Vasco have faced each other 429 times throughout the history of the rivalry, with Flamengo holding the advantage. They have won 167 times, drawn 123 times, and Vasco has won 139 times. The last match between the teams ended in a 1-1 draw at the Maracanã, in the second leg of last year's Brazilian Championship.
Counting all competitions, Flamengo hasn't lost to their rival in almost three years (or 12 games; 8 wins and 4 draws, since March 2023, when Vasco won 1-0 at the Maracanã, in the Campeonato Carioca).
