Playing away from home and with a man down from the start, Flamengo ended up losing to Bahia 1-0 and finished the 27th round of the Brasileirão in second place. Now, Flamengo will only play again on October 15th, when they face Botafogo in the derby at Nilton Santos. 

With the loss, the Mais Querido dropped to second place in the championship, but has the same number of points as Palmeiras, who took the lead with one more win. It's worth remembering that the two teams face each other at Maracanã in the 29th round.

The game

With both teams needing a win, they started the match looking to attack. In Flamengo's first good attack, Jorginho found a great pass to Emerson Royal, who burst into the box and passed to Pedro. As he was about to finish, David Duarte blocked the shot, the ball bounced back to the number 9 and out of bounds. 

The red-and-black team was down ten men in the 12th minute. Danilo lifted his foot too high in a challenge with Tiago, and the referee gave the defender a red card. Coach Filipe Luís immediately took off Pedro and brought on Cleiton. With an extra man, Bahia kept possession longer and exchanged passes in the attacking half. 

In the closing stages, Flamengo managed to calm the game and maintain more possession. In the 42nd minute, Arrascaeta delivered a superb pass over the top of David Duarte, leaving Lino one-on-one with the goalkeeper. The striker shot at goal, but Ronaldo saved. In the next play, Bahia opened the scoring with Willian José, who collected the rebound inside the box and fired a cross into the corner: 1-0. The home team went into halftime with a partial victory.

Bahia returned with three substitutions for the second half. De La Cruz, Carrascal, and Samuel Lino were replaced by Luiz Araújo, Plata, and Bruno Henrique, respectively. With the changes, Luiz Araújo began playing as a defensive midfielder alongside Jorginho. In the 19th minute, Bahia extended their lead, but VAR ruled Michel Araújo offside. 

In a successful attack by the red-and-blacks, Plata found Royal inside the box and crossed into the middle. Bahia's defense cleared the ball, and the rebound fell to Luiz Araújo, who took a shot from outside the box, but the ball went just wide of the post. In the next play, Wallace Yan hit Gilberto's face with his arm, earning a second yellow card and also being sent off, hurting the red-and-blacks, who were down two men in the final stretch. 

In the 43rd minute, Luiz Araújo took a free kick into the box, Léo Ortiz deflected it, and Ronaldo made the save. The equalizer was nearly achieved. Flamengo fought for the equalizer until the last minute, but ultimately lost.
