The game
With different objectives in the championship, the match began with Flamengo seeking to control possession. But it was Fortaleza who had the first dangerous chance. Bareiro went one-on-one with Rossi and chipped the ball over the goalkeeper. Ayrton Lucas cleared it off the line.
On the next play, Fortaleza opened the scoring. Breno Lopes raced down the left, cut inside, and fired a shot into the corner, leaving Rossi no chance: 1-0. At a disadvantage, the red-and-black team was forced to attack more.
In the 26th minute, Emerson Royal pounced on a rebound inside the box and fired a powerful shot, but Brenno made a good save. In the final minutes, Jorginho found a great pass to Samuel Lino, who crossed into the middle of the six-yard box looking for Arrascaeta, but the opposing defense cleared it for a corner. The first half ended with the home team ahead.
Flamengo returned for the second half with the same lineup. However, before the 10th minute, Filipe Luís replaced Bruno Henrique with Luiz Araújo. Plata moved into the center forward role. In the 12th minute, Jorginho played a pass to the edge of the box, and Samuel Lino backheeled it to Saúl, who fired a shot into the right corner, but the goalkeeper stretched to prevent the equalizer.
Shortly after, Michael and Wallace Yan came on for Samuel Lino and Plata, respectively. In the 24th minute, Wallace Yan, wide open on the left side of the box, passed to Arrascaeta, who struck first time, and the ball skimmed the post.
Flamengo began to completely control the game. In the 30th minute, Arrascaeta delivered a beautiful pass to Luiz Araújo, who struck a powerful shot, forcing another good save from the goalkeeper. Flamengo pressed their opponents, who defended at every possible cost. In the 39th minute, Jorginho sent a beautiful pass to Royal on the right; he crossed into the box, and Wallace Yan headed over the bar.
In stoppage time, Ayrton Lucas crossed into the box and Juninho rose to head the ball, but it went wide. The match at Castelão ended in defeat.
