Full of young players, Flamengo lost to Fortaleza 3-2, at Castelão, in the twenty-eighth round of the Brazilian Championship, on Wednesday night (28). Gabi scored both red-black goals in the match.
The Mais Querido (Most Beloved) started by dictating the pace of the game, holding the ball in the attacking half and working patiently. They fell behind but turned the game around in the first half. After halftime, lapses in attention at the beginning and end of the second half sealed the red-and-black defeat.
The game
The match began with Flamengo dominating the action. The red-and-blacks' first dangerous opportunity came after a beautiful exchange of passes through the middle. Victor Hugo received the ball in the box and shot across goal. The ball hit the post.
Flamengo moved the ball around in the attacking midfield, looking for space in the opposing defense. "Mais Querido" had 70% possession. In the 17th minute, Fortaleza opened the scoring with Pedro Rocha: 0-1.
Mengão went in search of a goal, the first attempt was with Mateusão, launched into the area, but the boy was unable to finish.
And the equalizer came soon after! Gabi, ever clever, capitalized on a misplaced pass from the opposing defense, won the ball back, and entered the box. The red-and-black striker finished with his left foot and bulged the net at Castelão: 1-1.
In the final stretch of the first half, Mateusão received a pass in the box and was tripped by the defender. The referee awarded the penalty. Gabi turned the score around for the Mais Querido (Most Wanted) to 2-1.
In the second half, Fortaleza equalized with another goal from Pedro Rocha: 2-2.
The teams evenly matched the match. Flamengo's first significant chance to regain the lead came from João Gomes inside the box, but the midfielder's shot narrowly missed.
At the end of the match, Caio Alexandre scored the third goal for the home team: 2-3. The move gave the final score to the match.
