Historic victory! Playing away from home in the 16th round of the Brasileirão, Flamengo showed great power of reaction and defeated RB Bragantino 2-1 this Wednesday (23), at Cicero de Souza Marques Stadium. The excitement was saved for the second half. After conceding a lightning goal after eight seconds, the red-and-black team went on the attack and managed to win with goals from Léo Pereira and Wesley.  

With the result, Mengão broke a 29-year streak of not beating Bragantino in São Paulo. Hot on the heels of the leaders and with a game in hand, the Mais Querido remains in second place with 33 points.

The game

The match began with Bragantino dominating possession, exchanging passes from defense to midfield in an attempt to attack. Flamengo, in turn, sought to adapt to the game. With a high-line defense, the São Paulo team made it difficult for the Rubro-Negro to get the ball under control. 

Adopting the same approach, Flamengo stepped up and created the first chance in the 12th minute. Wesley stole the ball in the attacking half and found Jorginho, who passed it to Bruno Henrique, who took a shot from the edge of the box. Cleiton made a good save and prevented the goal. As the game progressed, Flamengo gained more possession and exchanged passes near Bragantino's box. 

In the final minutes of the first half, Jhon Jhon took a free kick from the edge of the box and sent it into the top corner. Rossi made a brilliant fingertip save to prevent the home team from scoring. The teams went into the break with the score unchanged. 

Bragantino opened the scoring in the second half. Jhon Jhon passed to Lucas Barbosa, who broke through the defenders and burst into the box to beat Rossi: 1-0. Flamengo tried to respond quickly with Arrascaeta. Rossi passed to Bruno Henrique, who received the ball on the left and passed to the number 10. He drove it to the edge of the box and shot, but the ball went wide. 

Needing to equalize, the red-and-black team went all out on the attack and dominated possession, trying to find space to penetrate Bragantino's defense. Wallace Yan and Viña came on in place of Luiz Araújo and Varela, respectively.

In the 20th minute, Mengão equalized! After Arrascaeta's free kick from the left, Léo Pereira sneaked in as a surprise element between the defense and headed the ball firmly into the back of the net: 1-1. 

After equalizing the score, the red-and-black team continued to impose itself on the field and dominate the attack. Vastly superior in the match, Mengão turned the game around in the 39th minute! Viña made an excellent play down the left, advanced through the middle, and passed to Wallace Yan. The striker threatened to shoot but sent a cross to Wesley, who hit the ball into the corner to make it 2-1. 

In the final minutes, Flamengo managed to control the result and emerged with a HUGE away win. In addition, Flamengo ended a 29-year streak of not beating Bragantino at home.
