In a game valid for the 10th round of the Brasileirão, Flamengo showed all its strength and beat Palmeiras 2-0 on Sunday afternoon (25), at Allianz Parque. Arrascaeta, from the penalty spot, and Ayrton Lucas scored and decreed the red-black victory. With the result, Mengão closes in on the championship lead, being just one point behind Palmeiras.

The game

The match began with both teams scrutinizing each other. Palmeiras held the ball more and exchanged passes in the attacking half. In the 10th minute, Facundo Torres crossed into the box, and Varela deflected it with his arm. The referee awarded the penalty. He then consulted VAR and confirmed the decision. Piquerez stepped up to take the shot, and Rossi excelled in saving it.

After the missed penalty, Flamengo began to dominate possession and exchange passes in the attacking half. Time passed, and the game remained evenly matched. Flamengo continued to work the ball from foot to foot, trying to reach the Palmeiras box. In stoppage time, the ball fell to Cebolinha inside the box, but the striker's shot was weak, and Weverton made the save. The first half ended goalless at the Allianz.

In the second half, Flamengo returned with Michael replacing Cebolinha. Flamengo continued to exchange passes in the attacking half, looking for space to penetrate the green and white box. In the 13th minute, Gerson requested a substitution due to knee pain, and Danilo came on in his place.

As time wore on, Flamengo began to dominate the action, dominating the attacking half and circling the Palmeiras penalty area. In the 21st minute, Arrascaeta attempted a dribble inside the box and was pulled down by Murilo. The referee consulted VAR and awarded a penalty to Flamengo. The Uruguayan took the penalty and opened the scoring for Flamengo: 1-0.

In the final stretch, the Mais Querido extended their lead! Wallace Yan, who had just come on, provided a great pass for Ayrton Lucas to enter the box and tap in Weverton's corner: 2-0. Flamengo held off Palmeiras' pressure in stoppage time and left the field with the victory, closing the gap to the leader to just one point.

Goalkeeper Rossi's excellent performance is worth highlighting. The red-and-black defender, in addition to saving a penalty, made crucial saves that prevented Palmeiras from scoring.
