Formation with three defenders is approved

David, Angelim and Jean are satisfied with the way the team played defensively

Last Saturday (October 02.10nd), against Botafogo, Flamengo played with a slightly different tactical scheme than they had been using in previous rounds: the 3-5-2. With Juan absent at left back, coach Silas lined up David, Ronaldo Angelim, and Jean in defense. A formation that pleased the players and, according to them, produced positive results on the field.

David, who started the year as a starter, then lost his position to Jean and has now even played alongside his former rival, believes that Flamengo is well served in the position and praises his defensive teammates.

"We did well in the game against Botafogo, defensively speaking. I really like playing with three defenders. We played like that in the first half of the game against Vitória, and we didn't concede any goals. I think the team managed to gel well, and I hope we can maintain that in the next rounds," he said.

Ronaldo Angelim also believes the team has achieved significant defensive solidity. Proof of this is that Botafogo, especially in the first half, rarely shot on goal and only scored its goal from a set piece.

"There's no problem with us playing this way. Quite the opposite. The team did well, it's improving, and we have to maintain that. The Brazilian Championship is competitive, balanced, and the teams know each other, so it's important to have alternatives when forming the team," he added.

However, Angelim and Jean, who are suspended, will not be available for the next round. This means Welinton should get a chance at center back.
