Flamengo's futsal team returns to action next Monday, the 22nd, at 19 p.m., and coach Cid Escarlate is expected to have some news. Goalkeeper Rafael Otero (formerly of Vasco) and wingers Gustavo (formerly of América) and Roni (formerly of Vasco) have already signed with Flamengo and will play for the Gávea team this season. Furthermore, the club has retained a strong core of players from the 2008 state championship team and is embarking on a project to return to the sport's glory days.

The red-and-black coach prefers not to announce any signings in advance, to avoid any misinformation. Cid will only announce the squad once everyone has signed contracts. In addition to the reinforcements already announced, the team is still looking for other players.

\

"To avoid problems, I prefer to only speak when everything is clear. The team will be back on Monday and only then will I have a better idea of the players I can count on," said Cid.

\

One example that led the coach to adopt this stance was the signing of center Cazuza, which was verbally agreed upon but ultimately fell through due to the player receiving a higher offer from Macaé. Another player who is unlikely to remain at Flamengo is defensive midfielder Michel Marques, who will move to São Miguel, where he will play in the Futsal League.

\

"One day I'll see Flamengo taking players from others. We're moving towards that in the medium and long term, but for now we can't compete," said futsal supervisor Luiz Antônio.

Diego Panazio, Gabriel, Magrão, Rafael Pazos, Dudu, Wallace, Pablo, and Pedro are also confirmed for the red-and-black team for the 2010 season. From the 2009 squad, Michel, Silva, Arthur, Jaxwell, and Breno will not remain at Gávea. The former will go to São Miguel, the latter will not pursue a career in futsal, and the other three signed with Petrópolis.
