A chance at Flamengo's professional team is all a youngster raised in the club's youth ranks wants. A good step for these youngsters to reach the first team is to stand out in the Brazilian Under-23 Championship, which begins next Sunday (September 19.09th) with a duel against Fluminense at 15:30 pm at the Los Larios stadium in Xerém.

"It's a great opportunity. To have this contact with the more experienced players, to play in a high-profile competition, and to try to get a spot among the professionals. It's what we all want, and we're going to go after it," said defender Henrique, who started in the friendly against Brasília FC earlier this year.

The team's training sessions during the week were very intense and the players believe that this approach is essential for the team to achieve good results in the competition.

"The momentum is strong. We're working on every possible aspect to get the result on Sunday. Starting off on the right foot is important. I'm very excited and confident in the work. I know everyone in the group, we're getting into the swing of things, and I'm sure we'll put in a good performance against Fluminense," he said.

Supporter Saba, who can play at left-back in the competition, doesn't mind playing in another position and appreciates the opportunity to prove himself.

"The important thing is to play. Position doesn't matter. Unfortunately, I didn't get any chances in the professional league and now the key is to get into rhythm and compete in a competition like this, which is important," he added.
