After two setbacks in the first rounds (a draw against Volta Redonda and a defeat to Tigres), Flamengo's junior team had a full week to work, as they had a bye in the third round, and proved their worth by returning to the Octávio Pinto Guimarães Cup competition last Wednesday at Gávea. Coach Paulo Henrique's team played a good game, even opening up a two-goal lead, and won against Madureira, with grit, by 3-2.
The result leaves the team with four points in the standings and puts Flamengo back in the fight for the leadership of Group F. Next Saturday, Flamengo will try to take another step in this recovery in an important derby against Vasco, in Campo Grande, at 11 am.
