Early in the afternoon of this Thursday (11), Flamengo officially presented right-back Guillermo Varela. The 29-year-old Uruguayan, alongside Marcos Braz and Bruno Spindel, gave a press conference at Ninho do Urubu and, among other subjects, spoke about the expectation of debuting with the Manto.
Premiere expectations
"The expectations are very high. We have a lot to compete for. It's a great joy. I'm training with the team and am at the coach's disposal. I'm ready to debut on Sunday."
Play the Libertadores
"Obviously, he chooses the coach, as he'll see me these days. Flamengo always has the expectation of being a champion. Not just the Copa Libertadores. I'm ready for whatever it takes."
Conversation with Arrascaeta
"I spoke with him before coming here. It was important for the decision-making process; he spoke highly of the group. I've known him for ten years, since the U-20s, and we have a great relationship. We've played together for many years, and seeing him grow here makes me incredibly proud. He's a great player, a great person, and seeing how the fans idolize him is important."
Adaptation
"Giorgian gave me tremendous support. He spoke about the club, the institution, which is at European level. His desire to be here was enormous. It's very difficult to say no to Flamengo, which is why the decision was so decisive."
