Flamengo wins 34th title and secures the highest number of Carioca trophies

Rio de Janeiro is once again painted red and black. For the thirty-fourth time since 1912, when the "Mais Querido" (the "Most Beloved") took the field in the Campeonato Carioca for the first time, Flamengo dominates the state and, once again, reaffirms its established dominance in the tournament, as it remains, by far, the most successful team in the competition.

Flamengo surpassed Fluminense in terms of titles on May 3, 2009, when they defeated Botafogo in their third consecutive Campeonato Carioca final, winning their third consecutive Campeonato Carioca title for the fifth time in their history. That was the Mais Querido's 31st trophy in the state championship, breaking the tie with their rivals.

Flamengo's dominance in Rio de Janeiro has lasted nine years, with Flamengo remaining the competition's most successful team. Fluminense comes next with 31 titles, followed by Vasco da Gama with 24 and Botafogo with 20.

The Most Beloved was champion in 1914, 1915 (undefeated), 1920 (undefeated), 1921, 1925, 1927, 1939, 1942, 1943, 1944, 1953, 1954, 1955, 1963, 1965, 1972, 1974, 1978, 1979 (undefeated), 1979, 1981, 1986, 1991, 1996 (undefeated), 1999, 2000, 2001, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011 (undefeated), 2014 and 2017 (undefeated).

The biggest winner of the Campeonato Carioca in recent years, Flamengo has been champion in seven of the last 16 tournaments played in this 2001st century, taking the trophy in 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011; 2014, 2017 and, now, in XNUMX.
