Ronaldo Angelim has confirmed his contract with Flamengo for another year. The hero of the Brazilian title with his goal in the 2-1 victory over Grêmio in the last round of the Brasileirão, the defender negotiated with the club for a long time to secure his stay. Since the final days of 2009, the board and the player have been trying to find common ground, which happened this Friday.

During the press conference for Fernando, Flamengo's first signing for the 2010 season, vice president of football Marcos Braz had already warned that Ronaldo's contract renewal was well underway and that news could emerge throughout the day. Angelim will remain at Gávea until the middle of next year and is expected to join the group in Porto Feliz this weekend. The defender has been with the club since 2006 and has already won three state championships, the Copa do Brasil, and the Brasileirão.

"I'm very happy with the contract renewal with Flamengo, because I'll be staying at the club I truly want to be at and have come to love. Of course, I wish everything happened faster, but sacrifices were made on both sides, and we reached an agreement. I understand Flamengo's side, and the directors also handled the negotiations well. Now I'll report to Porto Feliz in the next few days and meet this wonderful group again. This year will be special, because we have the Libertadores Cup coming up. I'm certain we'll remain strong in the fight for titles, because the club also wants to win its fourth Rio de Janeiro championship. My desire to lift trophies remains unending," said the defender.
