Flamengo meets its fans again this Wednesday (19), at 21:45 pm, at Ilha do Urubu. Rubro-Negro receives Palmeiras for the 15th round of the 2017 Brazilian Championship, in a game that is very important at the top of the table. Flamengo is in fourth place with 24 points, two more than Palmeiras, in fifth place.

In last year's Brazilian Championship, both teams fought for the title until the very end. This year, both remain strong in the race for the trophy. Coach Zé Ricardo already knows what to expect in this Wednesday's duel. 

"I don't believe either team will change their style of play much. Palmeiras hasn't changed much with Cuca. Of course, we need to take every possible precaution. We won't change our way of playing. Whoever wants to climb the table must play forward. As the fans chant, "Go for them, Mengo."

In the heart of Parque Antárctica, a fierce title against one of Brazil's best squads, the Libertadores champions the year before. Every Flamengo fan remembers this game fondly. Every Flamengo fan "saw" that match on December 20, 1999. The champion team went through a trying time during the championship, seeing their top scorer, Romário, leave. A team of young players coached by the eternal and much-missed coach Carlinhos. A team with six youth players, reinforcing that Flamengo has always been a star player at home. The champion team was Clemer, Maurinho, Célio Silva, Juan, and Athirson: Leandro Ávila, Marcelo Rosa (Lê), Leonardo Inácio (Rodrigo Mendes), and Caio (Iranildo). Leandro Machado and Reinaldo. 

This isn't the first time Flamengo and Palmeiras have faced each other at Ilha do Urubu. In the 2005 Brazilian Championship, the teams drew 0-0 there on July 28th. Flamengo started with Diego, Leonardo Moura, Fernando (Rodrigo), Renato Silva, and André; Fabiano (Júnior), Jônatas (Róbson), Renato and Souza; Jean and Bruno Mezenga.

Flamengo's biggest defeats against Palmeiras all took place at Maracanã. In 1980, Flamengo crushed the São Paulo team 6-2. In 2008, Flamengo again won big. With a show by Íbson, who scored three goals, Flamengo won 5-2. 

The first clash between Flamengo and Palmeiras in the Brazilian Championships took place on 19/09/71, at Morumbi, and was won by the Most Beloved by 2 to 1, with goals from Samarone and Rogério, with Luís Pereira scoring the equalizer for the rivals.
