Undefeated against Vasco, Luxa doesn't care about statistics and is thinking about the future.
The coach has already managed Flamengo four times against their rival, winning all four matches, and hopes to maintain that record.

Every good Flamengo fan likes to beat Vasco. There's no way around it. The rivalry is intense, and that's why each "classic of millions" seems to be worth more than three points. And the team from Gávea has a true specialist in victories against their rival, this Sunday (October 24.10th), at 18:30 pm, at Engenhão: Vanderlei Luxemburgo.
Flamengo faces Vasco in a direct confrontation for positions and affirmation in the Brazilian Championship. Better than that, motivated by the work of a coach who is more than accustomed to facing – and beating – the team from São Januário. In this third stint with Flamengo, it's the first time Luxa will compete in the classic, but adding the periods of 1991 and 1995, when he also coached Flamengo, he has already led the team from Gávea on four occasions against the team from São Januário. And he won all four.
"It's good to know that, but numbers are just numbers. In football, you often go in as the favorite and come out defeated. So, what I really want is to go into this match and win. What's past is past. We have to think about the present and the future," the coach stated.
As a player, Luxemburgo doesn't have such a good record against Vasco (four wins, three draws and five losses in 12 games), but he has great memories: he scored a goal in the 4-1 thrashing of Cruzmaltino on June 27, 1976. Furthermore, he played his most unforgettable match for Flamengo against their rival in 1972.
"There was that game with the goal, but the unforgettable match was a 1-0 victory against Vasco in 1972, with a goal by Paulo Cesar Caju. It was a difficult game, in which we practically only had that one chance, and the victory qualified us for the Carioca final," he added.
Since arriving at Gávea, Luxemburgo hasn't experienced defeat. In three games, he won two, against Atlético-GO and Internacional, and drew with Avaí in Santa Catarina.
