In four games in charge of Flamengo, Luxemburgo has achieved two draws and two wins, remaining undefeated at the helm of the red-and-black team. This Sunday, in his first derby against Vasco in this third stint at the club, Luxa left the Engenhão stadium satisfied with what he saw on the field. Despite lamenting the goal conceded due to a defensive lapse, the coach emphasized the importance of a change in the team's attitude in the second half and celebrated the recent record of the Gávea team.
Vanderlei chose not to comment on whether the result was fair, but celebrated the fact that he had at least earned a point. According to him, every point earned in the Brazilian Championship is important.
"Saying whether it was fair or not is complicated. We made a mistake in the first half, Vasco has a fast team and managed to score. In the second half, we started looking for openings, we managed to equalize and we could have won. There are seven rounds left and every point is important," said the coach, who also explained that the team's success rate in the last few rounds is that of a team fighting for better things in the competition.
"We've earned eight points out of a possible 12 (Luxa has managed the team in four games so far). That's a good percentage for a team aiming for something. We have to consider the rivalry; it's a classic match. Vasco and Flamengo, Fluminense and Vasco, Vasco and Botafogo. The draw against Avaí was bad because they're fighting against relegation, but between Flamengo and Vasco, I don't see it as bad," observed Luxa, who praised the team's performance and that of striker Diego Mauricio.
"The team played very well. Diego had a good performance, as did the entire team, both offensively and defensively. As a team, it was good," he concluded.
