The game
Flamengo started the match controlling possession. On their first attack, Arrascaeta took a free kick from the left side of the box, the goalkeeper was out of position, and Danilo managed to deflect it. The ball hit the post, and the rebound was sent over by Luiz Araújo. Los Angeles, in turn, created a threat in the 10th minute. Delgado received the ball outside the box, unleashed a powerful shot, and the ball hit the post before going out for a goal kick.

Flamengo's response came soon after. Cebolinha passed to Arrascaeta in the box, the Uruguayan fired a masterful shot, and the ball hit the post again. It was Flamengo's second shot that exploded into the opposing goal. With most of the possession, Flamengo occupied the attacking half and tried to penetrate the opposing defense, which was tightly packed.

In the 21st minute, Arrascaeta crossed into the box, the Los Angeles defense partially cleared it, and the ball fell to Pedro. The number 9 attempted a shot but was blocked by the opposing defense. The red-and-black team persisted in attacking and created opportunities to open the scoring.

In the 30th minute, Allan crossed into the box, Lloris collided with the defender and dropped the ball. Varela challenged Long, and the ball fell to Pedro, who shot straight at Marlon. Luiz Araújo passed the ball to the number 9, facing the empty net, but his shot hit the crossbar. Los Angeles managed to find the net in the 37th minute through Marlon, but the assistant referee flagged Hollingshead for offside, which was later confirmed by VAR. Flamengo dominated the first half, hitting the post three times, creating chances, but failing to break the deadlock and going into halftime 0-0.

After halftime, defender Marlon was substituted for concussion protocol. Therefore, both teams were allowed to make up to six substitutions. From the first corner of the second half, Arrascaeta lifted the ball into the box, Pedro stretched to attempt a header but couldn't reach it. In the 12th minute, Cebolinha received the ball on the left edge of the box, shot it in, and Lloris made a good save.

The first substitution for the red-and-black team came in the 14th minute. Michael replaced Cebolinha. As the game progressed, Flamengo continued to prioritize possession in the attacking half, looking for space in the Los Angeles defense. In the 24th minute, Evertton Araujo passed to Arrascaeta in the middle; the Uruguayan turned, exchanged passes with Pedro, and fired a powerful shot from the edge of the box. The ball hit the crossbar once again.

In the final minutes, Los Angeles opened the scoring with Bouanga. The forward received the ball between the red-and-black defense and slotted it past Rossi: 1-0. Mengão didn't let it slide and responded immediately with a beautiful goal! Jorginho, who had just come on, passed to the brilliant Wallace Yan, who burst into the box at speed, dribbled past the defender, and fired a superb shot to level the score at 1-1. It was the youngster's second goal of the World Cup.

The comeback almost came right after. Allan received the ball at the edge of the box and unleashed a powerful shot. The ball went just wide of the post. Orlando's conversation ended with a draw! Mengão, leader of Group D, finished the first phase with seven points, two wins and one draw.
