Flamengo coach Jayme de Almeida spoke to reporters after the 5-0 victory over Palestino on Wednesday night at Ilha do Urubu. The rout qualified the Red-Blacks for the round of XNUMX of the Copa CONMEBOL Sudamericana, where they will face Chapecoense on dates yet to be determined.

For Jayme, not only the victory, but the most important factor of the night was the return of joy to the squad. After the dismissal of coach Zé Ricardo last Sunday, the team needed a change of heart and a light result to return to the Brazilian Championship and seek another victory. On Sunday, Flamengo faces Atlético Mineiro at Independência, at 16 pm, needing a win to end a three-match winning streak in the competition.
"After everything Flamengo went through, the responsibility grew a lot, and my biggest concern was how to handle the game and our mood. Our morale was low. I dealt with it, talked to them, and knew Palestino was coming strong. The first 20 minutes were strong. We played beautifully, with a lot of love and dedication. Our strategy of playing on the counterattack yielded fantastic results," said Jayme, who has already spoken about Sunday's match and what the team that will face Atlético Mineiro should be like.
"I don't know if I'll stay or not (for Sunday), but if I have to participate, I don't see any problems. The game against Atlético has no favorites; it's a huge rivalry. I can't imagine the team being without any players. The team that plays will be Flamengo. The group is of a very good level and we'll go there and represent and try to win," said the coach, who will be without Diego and Everton, who are suspended, as well as Guerrero, who is injured. Geuvânio left the field against Palestino, but that's not a concern.
At the press conference, Jayme also discussed Vinícius JR's first goal for the senior team. According to the coach, "the goal lifted a huge weight off the kid's shoulders, and everyone was waiting for it." Botafogo, their Copa do Brasil quarterfinal opponent, wasn't forgotten either. However, Jayme preferred not to go into details about the match or how Flamengo will play, simply asking that fans enjoy the spectacle in peace. Finally, the coach gave an overview of the group that Flamengo's next coach will encounter upon arriving at Ninho do Urubu.
"You'll find a highly qualified group interested in growth. You'll find a very good group that you can certainly transform into a winner," he concluded.
