Jean seeks ownership with great commitment
The defender hopes to work well during the week to face Vasco in Sunday's classic.
By From the team at Flamengo's official website - inExperienced defender Jean not only returned to action last Sunday (July 25.07), but also regained his confidence and gained hope of taking over the starting spot in Flamengo's team. The defender was pleased with his performance against Internacional, despite the loss, and believes he has already taken a good step in his quest for a starting spot.
"Some of the anxiety has subsided. We know that when we arrive at a big club like Flamengo, which is different, there are huge expectations. You want to live up to the trust placed in you by being on the field, and I think that happened. We didn't get the win, but it was an important step for me," he said.
The player reveals his expectations for facing Vasco, on Sunday (01.08), at Maracanã. Jean knows that the team still needs to improve in some specific areas, but he shows confidence in a positive result.
"It's impossible not to be excited on the eve of a derby like this. We need to improve on a few things, we made some mistakes against Inter, but I think the most important thing is to work hard these days for Sunday's game," said the defender, who hopes to gain more opportunities as time goes on.
"I'm fighting for a starting spot. I aim for that and, if possible, I want to have new opportunities to stay on the first team and earn my place in the squad. I've been improving physically and I believe this week full of training is crucial for me to improve and get on the field on Sunday, if coach Rogério chooses me," he concluded.
For his potential defensive partner in the derby, Ronaldo Angelim, the fight for a position between Jean and Welinton will give coach Rogério Lourenço a real headache.
\"It's Rogério who decides who joins the team. Jean came in well, he's an experienced player and has proven he can help us a lot. Welinton is a young lad with a lot of quality and has been showing his potential now since the World Cup. I'm sure it's a good decision for the coach, who can opt for experience or youth. And the team benefits from that," he analyzed.
