Jean regrets expulsion against Cruzeiro
Number 26 believes the move ended up hurting the team, but shows confidence in substitutes
By From the team at Flamengo's official website - inOne of the most experienced players in Flamengo's squad, defender Jean ended up being sent off in a dubious manner in last Wednesday's game (01.09), against Cruzeiro, at Parque do Sabiá, in Uberlândia (MG). The defender ended up receiving a red card in a disputed play with striker Thiago Ribeiro, in the 27th minute of the second half, and will be out of Sunday's game (05.09), against Santos, at Maracanã.
The number 26 shirt regretted the expulsion, but stated that the referee's error can be understood and only regretted the fact that he will not be able to play next weekend.
"We know it's important to count on everyone at a time like this. I believe it was just a mistake by the referee, nothing bad, but unfortunately it hurt us not only during the match but also ruled me out of the next game. I can only regret it and hope my replacement does well and has a great game," he said.
Without Jean, Welinton and David are expected to compete for the starting spot. The defender praises his potential replacements and believes the group is well-served in that position.
"They're great players. Welinton had good opportunities and came in, David was playing last year and the choice depends on Silas. Whoever he chooses will certainly leave Flamengo well served at the back," he concluded.
