Jean motivated to continue as starter
Defender trained with the first team in Thursday's tactical training and should start playing on Sunday

The battle for a defensive spot alongside Ronaldo Angelim looks like Jean will be the clear winner. The experienced Flamengo defender, who earned the spot in the post-World Cup period when David was unable to play for Flamengo due to his Panathinaikos situation, is expected to remain in the team even with the number 14's situation now resolved.

In the tactical training session this Thursday (19.08), Jean trained as a starter and remained in the main team in all the variations that coach Rogério Lourenço tested, which gives indications that he should start playing on Sunday (22.08), against Atlético-PR, in Curitiba.

"Rogério set up the team this way and I believe there will be no changes for the game. I'm rooting for that and I'm calm. I've been working hard last week, since I didn't play, I prepared well and I'm confident I can play a great game and come back with the three points," he said.

The defender revealed that he does not have a preference for a formation with two or three defenders, but explained that his biggest concern is that the team can maintain the low average of goals conceded: just three in the last seven games.
"I don't have a preference for a scheme. The important thing for the team is to have a strong defensive posture. That's what worries me most. Regardless of the number of defenders, the important thing is for the team to function well and perform well," he added.
