Coach Rogério Lourenço hasn't made a final decision yet, but defender David has already demonstrated his desire, and Jean is no slouch. Everything indicates that the competition for a spot in the central defense alongside Ronaldo Angelim will be intense at Flamengo. The experienced number 26, who had been a starter for Flamengo while David's situation with Panathinaikos was still ongoing, knows the competition will be fierce, but hopes the coach will choose him in the lineup for Sunday's game (August 22.08).
\ The defender hopes to have another opportunity, but believes that, regardless of who starts playing, be it him, David, or even Welinton, who has been performing very well whenever he gets a chance, the red-black defensive system will be able to maintain the excellent average of just three goals conceded in seven games.
"Now it's the coach who's going to have a headache, right? Rogério is the one who's going to choose, but I'm sure it's going to be a great fight. Flamengo is the one who stands to gain from this. I'm working hard and I want to get back into the starting lineup. Every player wants to start, and it's no different for me. I believe I've been playing well, I know David and Welinton's potential, and I believe the competition for that spot will be healthy," he said.
Despite being motivated to start playing, Jean guarantees that he will continue working hard regardless of his starting position and says he is relaxed about preparing on a daily basis.
"I'm calm. Of course I'll go for that spot, but regardless of whether I start playing, the important thing is to continue dedicating myself, working hard, so I can help the team throughout the championship," he concluded.
