Jean wants the team to fight for the top positions
Defender says Brazilian champions shouldn't be in tenth place and predicts improvement
By From the team at Flamengo's official website - inDefender Jean arrived at Flamengo during the transfer window looking to prove his worth. Having been sidelined for a long time after problems with his club in Russia, the 30-year-old defender, who previously played for Corinthians and São Paulo, was the first signing of the so-called "Zico Era" at the helm of Flamengo's football club and has gradually earned his place.
Currently a starting defender, he's one of the reasons the team has conceded only four goals in its last eight Brasileirão games, and he's happy with his individual form wearing the Sacred Mantle. Despite this, he's not completely satisfied and wants to see Flamengo fighting for the top spots in the table.
"I, personally, am happy with my performances. I believe I've been playing well and helping the team. But the important thing is that Flamengo is in a better situation. This has been bothering me a lot. I live my work very much and I don't accept that Flamengo, the current Brazilian champion, is in tenth place, in the middle of the table," he analyzed.
Jean also believes that the red-and-black team has every chance of competing on equal terms with the leaders and achieving a spot in the top four or even a second consecutive title. The team just needs to find its feet as quickly as possible.
"That's not our goal. We have the team to be in a better situation and, when we get it right, we'll definitely take a big leap forward, in search of a place in the Libertadores and, who knows, even the title," he concluded.
