Joel asks for a peaceful Sunday at Maracanã
By Flamengo Archive - inAn event geared toward children at Maracanãzinho, with sessions scheduled for the entry and exit times of the crowd attending the Flamengo-Vasco derby this Sunday. As if the daily concerns of being Flamengo's coach weren't enough, Joel Santana also expressed concern about the risk that the derby rivalry could escalate into violence between fans, further endangering the many children who will surely be at the Maracanã complex.
"I wish the atmosphere we're experiencing this Saturday here in Gávea could be transported to Maracanã. I hope the fans and the children go and return in peace to the events they're going to watch," said the coach, referring to the more than 200 children who attended Flamengo's training session.
The coach made an appeal to the most excited fans: "Anyone who has a problem, before thinking about committing violence, should think that they could be the father of one of those children who will be going to see the game or the spectacle at Maracanãzinho. I hope there is time for this reflection."
