After beating Cienciano-PER 2-1, Flamengo turns its attention to the Taça Rio opener on Sunday against Resende at Maracanã. On Friday afternoon, coach Joel Santana organized a tactical training session to prepare the red-and-black team.

With Flamengo having an important Libertadores match on Thursday in Montevideo against Nacional, the coach is expected to field a significantly modified lineup against Resende. In the tactical drill, Joel fielded Bruno, Luizinho, Leonardo, Thiago Salles, and Egidio; Jailton, Jônatas, Kleberson, and Marcinho; and Diego Tardelli and Obina.

After training, the red-black commander praised the new formation and promised a lot of fighting in the quest for the Taça Rio title.

"Just because we won the Guanabara Cup doesn't mean we're going to drop out of the Rio Cup. We're closer to winning the Rio Championship than the other competitors. A team with Kleberson, Diego Tardelli, Obina, and Jonâtas can't be considered reserves, as they are great players. They'll have the opportunity to play a very important match, because Flamengo is chasing the Rio Cup."

The coach's words were confirmed by right-back Luizinho.

- "We're going in to win. Flamengo always goes into matches looking for victory. We want to win the Taça Rio to avoid a Carioca final, and there's nothing better than starting the competition by winning all three points."
