Players break personal records against Botafogo
By Flamengo Communication - in
The match between Flamengo and Botafogo, part of the 9th round of the Brazilian Championship, was marked by high levels of physical performance, with several players achieving personal bests for the season in metrics such as distance covered, number of sprints, accelerations, and top speed. This type of performance, which has been repeated in each round, reinforces the team's intensity and commitment.
Among the individual highlights, Luiz Araújo impressed by covering over 12,5 kilometers, with 26 sprints and a top speed of 33 km/h, all of which represented his best times of the season. Alex Sandro and Evertton Araujo also achieved distance and acceleration records, while Everton Cebolinha and Pedro stood out for achieving their best speed and explosiveness of the year.
"In a scenario with so many games, our challenge is to keep our players healthy enough to consistently deliver numbers like these. This is achieved through integrated work from various departments, but also through intense training and dedication from the players themselves. It's this balance that guarantees a team with such intensity and commitment in matches, even with such a short recovery period between them," explained Diogo Linhares, Flamengo's fitness coach.
In total, five athletes on the starting team broke personal records (PR) in at least one of these physical performance indicators: Total distance covered (DT); High-intensity distance (HID); Number of accelerations (ACC) and decelerations (DEC); Number of sprints and sprint distances; and Maximum speed achieved. In addition to the volume of effort, the data also reveals the maintenance of intensity in the movements performed.
"We achieved some personal bests in terms of distance covered in the game and, most importantly, intensity, which is crucial for us to have an accurate understanding of our athletes' progress and fitness level. We know it's a tight schedule, but this data demonstrates consistency in the group's fitness level," concluded Claudio Pavanelli, Flamengo's physiologist.
The outstanding physical performance in the classic is the result of the work carried out by the physical preparation, physiology, nutrition, and health departments, which work in constant synergy with the coaching staff. With the season's demanding schedule, keeping athletes at a high physical level is a competitive advantage.
