Players lament disharmony and lack of rhythm

Gil believes that, with a series of opportunities, he can show his football skills at Flamengo.

With injuries, transfers, call-ups, and suspensions plaguing Flamengo's squad at the start of this Brazilian Championship, coach Rogério Lourenço had no choice but to rely on players who hadn't been getting many opportunities. This decision could yield excellent results, but it could also fail to gel from the start. After all, a lack of match fitness can hinder players.

This is the case with striker Gil, who had only played two matches for Flamengo, one in 2009 against Botafogo and the friendly against Brasília this season. The Gávea team's number 18 lamented the lack of chemistry, but celebrated the opportunity.

"The lack of harmony is a bit detrimental. We were with a different team. We've completely changed. We have new players. I wasn't playing and I came in. The opportunity was given, including to me. But we'll try to make the most of it," he said.

Coach Rogério Lourenço agrees. According to him, in addition to Gil, midfielder Ramón also performed slightly below expectations due to a lack of match rhythm.

"The cases of Gil and Ramón, in my opinion, have a lot to do with a lack of match rhythm. They hadn't been playing for a while, and of course that hinders things," he added.
