Still unsure whether they will face Universidad de Chile this Wednesday (April 07.04) in the Copa Santander Libertadores, Flamengo's players are awaiting a decision from the authorities regarding the match. However, despite the problems faced by everyone in Rio de Janeiro, if the weather improves and the match goes ahead, they would like to count on a massive crowd.
Flamengo fans have always been feared by their opponents for the pressure they exert during matches at Maracanã. And to prove that this maxim still holds true, just as in previous years, the entire squad relies on the strength that comes from the stands. Experienced defender Álvaro, one of the group's leaders, conveys this sentiment to everyone, a unanimous sentiment among the red-and-black players.
"The fans need to be close, especially in these decisive games. It's at these moments that the fans show their strength. Flamengo is halfway there when the Maracanã is packed. I wanted to call on the fans to give us this joy. They will push us, and we are ready to respond. I wanted them to know how crucial they are," said Álvaro, who only realized the great pressure of being a Flamengo player when he arrived at the club last year.
"When people told me that playing for Flamengo was different, I didn't quite understand. Today, I have a clear understanding of how true that is. But this pressure doesn't affect our group. We have experienced players, and even the younger ones are used to this situation. We're heading into a series of decisive matches, and none of this will shake us on the field," analyzed Álvaro.
For midfielder Toró, who arrived at Flamengo in 2005, he can't expect anything other than a lot of support from the fans in decisive moments.
"There's nothing to complain about with our fans. When Flamengo needs them, they'll show up. I have no doubt they'll be there for us just like they were last year," Toró concluded.
The match between Flamengo and Universidad de Chile is scheduled for this Wednesday (07.04), at 21:50 pm, at Maracanã, valid for the fourth round of group 8 of the Copa Santander Libertadores.
