Passing the ball, not rushing, and knowing when to attack. Pillars of Flamengo's playing style in the decisive match against Guarani, this Saturday (November 20.11th), at Engenhão. Aware that the fans might even get a little apprehensive if the result took a while to come, coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo's team made sure to open the scoring early and control the game after that.

It's true that Guarani managed to equalize, but the team didn't lose its composure, continued to dominate the match, sought a second goal and, with great composure, maintained its lead. Midfielder Renato, who scored the first goal for the red-and-black team, praised the team's intelligence throughout the 90 minutes.

"The team was smart. We knew we couldn't just go out there any old way, that we needed to balance the game, run down the clock and wear down the opponent to take advantage of the right moments to break out. We played wisely and that was very important," he analyzed.

Defender Ronaldo Angelim had exactly the same view of the game. The number four revealed that the players discussed it before the match started and stressed that it was to be expected that the game would not be easy.

"We controlled possession, we knew it wouldn't be an easy game and we had to be alert. We played well, we managed to get out of our own half calmly, we scored a goal on the counter-attack and it was very important to get this result," he added.

The victory leaves Flamengo with 43 points, in 13th place, opening a good margin from the relegation zone and definitively entering the fight for a spot in the 2011 Copa Sudamericana.
