Itu (SP) – It's not just coach Rogério Lourenço who has fond memories of the generation he worked with in the youth team and won, among other titles, the Carioca and the 2007 Macaé Cup. The players who were part of the group also reveal very good memories of that time.
Midfielder Camacho is one of them. A starter in Flamengo's recent games and in Rogério's first training sessions during the offseason, he hopes this generation, which has nine players in the main squad, will replicate his success in the professional squad.
"That team was really good. The guys born between '89 and '91 have been playing together for a long time. We won a lot in the youth team, and I have great memories. I'm happy to see that many of them are here in the professional ranks today. God willing, we'll repeat that success now. We're working hard to return to full strength in the Brazilian Championship," he said.
Goal scorer Diego Maurício, that team's top scorer, believes the group is already accustomed to victories and the pressure that Flamengo typically faces. He also praises Rogério and his teammates from that generation.
"This generation is coming up with the winning legacy of the youth academy, knowing what they came to the professional level for. With the peace of mind that the youth academy professionals gave us, so that when we reached the professional level we could give our best, we will strive to do what we know best, which is to play our football with joy. I have many good memories from the youth academy. I was a two-time Carioca champion, a Brazilian champion, and all with Rogério," he stated.
