There's a new manager at Ninho do Urubu! Coach Jorge Jesus was officially introduced on Monday afternoon (10), at Ninho do Urubu. The Portuguese coach spoke to journalists in a press conference and highlighted the challenge at Mais Querido. 

"When you coach a team like Flamengo, one of the best teams in a country, the fans want, in addition to victory, quality of play. Winning alone isn't enough. That's normal. Those who are at Flamengo have to understand this demand, that it's necessary to go beyond victory."

"I am very honored to have been invited to lead this great club. It's impressive how my decision has resonated in Portugal. My coaching history is written, it's done. I am the coach with the most titles in Portugal, and I want to showcase my work in Brazil.

Jorge Jesus praised the structure he found at the club and also the strength of the Biggest Fanbase in the World. 

"Since I arrived at Flamengo, even though I didn't know the structure from the inside, I knew what this club represents. Now, I'm even more convinced. It's a great club, a great sports brand, with the capacity for structure and organization. There's no great club without a mass of fans like Flamengo has."

The 64-year-old manager will have 20 days to work during the Copa América break. Jorge Jesus took the opportunity to praise the quality of the Brazilian players. 

"We have 20 days to present our work, show the players our ideas and concepts. There's nothing new. I'm used to working with Brazilian players; they're excellent professionals. I want to grow with them and improve not only results, but the quality of Flamengo's game."

Of course I know the squad. I didn't just watch Flamengo from the moment they invited me; I watch every Brazilian football match at home. I don't know the players as well as Marcelo Salles, but I will. When we spoke, the board already had positions they thought were important to strengthen. And I agreed.

To present a game idea, I have to discuss several tactical approaches. I have a concept, but above all, the evolution of football isn't about having one style of play, but about having many ideas. This is the evolution of the world of football. I'd venture to say I won't stray too far from what Flamengo has been doing. Of course, we'll have variations; I'll play with a first and a second striker. That's what I'll present to Flamengo. But there are many defensive and offensive variations.

In all activities, you need passion. And my passion is soccer. Regarding Zico, I know he's Mengão's greatest idol. We talked when he was at Sporting; he's a friend of mine. When Flamengo was mentioned, I heard about Júnior and Leandro, and Zico characterized the club for Portugal.

Diego was never my player. When he was at Porto, I don't remember if he was at Benfica. He had a great run in Portuguese football. Gabigol was at Inter Milan, and Inter bought a player from Sporting, João Mário. He asked to come play in Portugal, I spoke to him, but he ended up going to Benfica (laughs).

That's the reality: playing on a synthetic pitch. Few coaches in the world have that experience. I've already played a Champions League game in Russia; it's completely different. We have to adapt. Maybe do some training, but we have to keep in mind that switching from grass to synthetic can lead to injuries.

I usually do this. From the moment I leave my country, and this is my second experience outside of Portugal. In Saudi Arabia, it was the same. The management wanted to do a four-year contract, and I said no. Then, if I adapt and they're satisfied, we'll renew. No one is dependent on anyone else.
