Mengão's new coach is already in the area! On Sunday morning (16), Argentine Jorge Sampaoli landed at Galeão Airport around 10 am, where he was received by Bruno Spindel, the club's football director. In Brazil, the 63-year-old coach has already managed Santos and Atlético-MG.

Still in the airport lobby, Sampaoli gave a quick interview to FlaTV and spoke his first words as the red-black coach:

"I'm happy with the opportunity and hope to live up to all your expectations of me. Yes, knowing some of the players in the squad helps. First, we need to arrive, diagnose them, and see how they are. And then we'll propose a project that will surely yield results," said the 63-year-old Argentine.

Previously, Bruno Spindel had already spoken to FlaTV about expectations for the arrival of a new coach.

"We're very happy with Sampaoli's signing. It's been a long-standing dream of this board; every time we tried to sign him, he was committed. Now we've succeeded, and I'm sure it will be a very successful effort. Flamengo, our fans, the group—everyone will be very happy with him leading the team. I'm sure we'll compete in every competition and, God willing, win major titles this year," declared the football director.

Sampaoli begins his work at the club from this Monday (17). Today, he will be at Maracanã to watch Flamengo's debut in the Brasileirão against Coritiba, at 16 pm.
